Germany meet Denmark in a crucial Group B encounter at UEFA Women’s Euro 2025.
Victory would see Germany secure a place in the Quarter-Finals, whilst Denmark need at least a draw to keep their dreams alive.
Team News
Captain, Giulia Gwinn is ruled out for Germany after she suffered a media cruciate ligament injury in their 2-0 win over Poland.
Denmark have no fresh injury concerns to report coming into this match after a 1-0 loss to Sweden.
When is Kick-Off?
Germany face Denmark at St Jakob-Park, Basel, Switzerland, on Tuesday 8 July at 6pm CEST (5pm UK Time), live on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Germany have won two of four previous meetings against Denmark at UEFA Women’s Euro Finals (W2, L2).
- Denmark have lost both group stage meetings against Germany at UEFA Women’s Euro by a 6-0 aggregate result, having lost 2-0 in 1997 then 4-0 in the 2022 edition.
- This is the third consecutive UEFA Women’s Euro tournament in which Germany met Denmark, with the Danes having won 2-1 in their 2017 Quarter-Final tie then Germany won 4-0 in group stage of 2022 edition.
- Germany have scored 12 goals in their last three matches without conceding in all competitions (W3).
- Since the group stage was introduced in 1997, Denmark are yet to suffer consecutive defeats in this phase of the tournament.
Prediction
Although they are favourites to win the group, Germany were certainly made to work for their clinical win over Poland amidst a wasteful first half so there is room for improvement now any cobwebs are dusted down, which I hope is the case as this is a tricky game for them.
Denmark meanwhile did a superb job defensively to frustrate Sweden but just lacked the final touch to snatch a draw but there are positives to draw from the defeat, because if they can stay resilient and take their chances clinically then they should hopefully get something from this game.
The Danes however are up against their Group Stage bogey team and with Sweden likely to beat Poland, it is imperative that they get a result here, especially given that Germany are without Gwinn but this won’t be easy.
Prediction: Germany 1-1 Denmark
Result: Germany 2-1 Denmark
