Roundup of the seventh round of the 2025 F3 season as the grid hit Silverstone on a massive weekend of action.

Trident’s Rafael Camara came into this weekend with 24-point lead over Tim Tramnitz as the season began to slowly hit the home stretch, on a weekend where the title fight grew wider amidst competitive racing and weather disruption.

Practice

ART GP’s trio of Laurens van Hoepen, Tuukka Taponen and James Wharton were first on track but the DAMS’ pair of Christian Ho and Nicola Lacorte were the first to lay benchmark times, as they traded fastest laps in the opening 15 minutes.

Everyone else waited until the 15th minute before laying down their markers as Tasanapol Inthraphuvasak posted 1m 46.379 a minute later to put himself top from Mari Boya and James Wharton.

Ugo Ugochukwu beat the Thai’s lap time by 0.102 seconds in the 24th minute but 14 minutes later, there was a triple change at the top as Camara then Stenshorne went quickest, only for Tsolov to top the session seconds later with 1m 45.847 ahead of Tramnitz at the checkered flag.

Qualifying

Stromsted was first on track and set 2m 08.222 as the initial unrepresentative benchmark which he soon lowered to 1m 46.522 but teammate, Camara found 0.204s to go fastest.

Tsolov however managed to find more time and found himself fastest with 1m 45.655 from Tramnitz and Inthraphuvasak.

Some drivers opted to do a mid-session run which didn’t see much improvement aside from Camara posting 1m 45.176 to go top.

Everyone left their final flying laps until the final minute as Tsolov responded with 1m 45.043 to claim his third pole position of the season, albeit only ahead of Ugochukwu by 0.023s.

Camara qualified third ahead of Boya, Tramnitz, Wurz, Stenshorne, Van Hoepen, Nael, Leon, Ho and Inthraphuvasak who took reverse-pole.

Sprint Race

Inthraphuvasak made a clean start from reverse-pole but second-placed Ho lost position to Nael into the Loop but further back, Badoer spun out trying an inside move on Tsolov into that corner which brought out the safety car and saw the PREMA driver hit with a three-place grid penalty.

Racing resumed at the end of lap 4 as Stenshorne passed Ho for third, whilst Camara cleared Wurz for tenth into Luffield following team orders from Trident for Wurz to not scrap hard with the Brazilian.

Up front, Nael attempted to pass Inthraphuvasak into Village for the lead but got squeezed off-track only to re-join with the inside line to seize the lead, which sparked debate between Campos, VAR and stewards over the legality of Nael’s overtake.

It was eventually decided on lap 10 that Nael had to hand the position back which he duly did into Stowe, whilst Van Hoepen had cleared Ho into Vale on lap 8 for fourth behind the leading trio.

Once back in the lead, Inthraphuvasak fought off Nael who found himself passed by Stenshorne on the outside of Stowe on lap 14, whilst Boya demoted Ho to sixth earlier in the lap.

Nael’s tyres soon lost its best rubber and the Frenchman defended valiantly against Van Hoepen but got squeezed off at Stowe on lap 16, only to re-join and battle the Dutchman into Vale which allowed Boya to sneak past the pair into Club to take third place.

Inthraphuvasak eventually clung on to become the first Thai winner in F3 ahead of Stenshorne, Boya, Nael, Van Hoepen, Ugochukwu, Ho and Leon, whilst Camara and Wurz rounded out the top ten for Trident.

Nael however was hit with a ten-second time penalty for an off-track move on Van Hoepen which dropped him to 12th and promoted Bilinski to the final point in tenth, before a further five-second time penalty followed for his overtake on Inthraphuvasak for the lead on lap six.

The 15-second total time penalty dropped him down to 19th in the final classification.

Tramnitz missed out in 11th which meant that his title deficit over Camara was extended to 27 points.

Feature Race

As is typical of Silverstone and unpredictable British weather, the feature race was hit by light rain falling 20 minutes before the start which led to a five-minute delay and mixture of slick and wet runners, as 14 drivers stuck with slicks with the others opted for the wet tyres.

At lights out, Boya proved that the wet tyre was the correct strategy as he swept through into the lead at Abbey from Nael and Leon as the slick-tyre runners got sucked up by the wet runners, which left Tsolov as the highest-placed slick runner by the end of lap 4 after Giusti recovered from an opening-lap spin at Luffield.

Bilinski meanwhile carved his way up to fourth from 16th on the grid in the opening six laps, whilst Benavides spun out of Club at the end of lap 4 following contact with Stromsted.

Wurz was the first slick tyre runner to pit at the end of lap six as the wet runners found themselves lapping eight seconds faster,

The rain intensified on lap 10 which caught Sharp out as the New Zealander aquaplaned off at Club which brought out the safety car a lap later, which was followed by the red flag on lap 14 as the visibility deteriorated.

Stewards initially opted to resume the race after a 13-minute delay but a minute before the restart, they instead aborted the race and declared Boya the winner  from Nael and Leon on one-lap countback, with half-points awarded as Boya claimed his first feature race victory.

Camara consequently retained his title lead over Tramnitz and Tsolov after the trio all finished outside of the points, whilst Boya climbed to fourth in the standings.

F3 now takes a three-week break before reconvening on weekend of 25-27 July for the Belgian round at Spa-Francorchamps.
