Brighton & Hove Albion have signed Greek forward, Charalampos Kostoulas from Olympiacos for £31.4m.
Kostoulas’ move comes after a breakthrough debut season for Olympiacos with seven goals and one assist in 35 appearances.
Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Manchester United and Newcastle plus top European clubs like Bayern Munich and Juventus reportedly too showed interest in Kostoulas, which prompted Brighton to swoop quickly with an £29.7m fee plus £1.7m in add-ons.
Kostoulas has signed a five-year contract until June 2030.
Brighton’s Head Coach, Fabian Hurzeler has welcomed Kostoulas’ arrival who he is “delighted” to consider to be “an outstanding young player” with massive potential in the Premier League, which is his motivation to make the move.
“He wants to play in the Premier League and we are excited about what he can bring to the team.”
Hurzeler proceeded to add that Kostoulas “will give us different attacking options and we’re looking forward to helping him adapt to his new environment.”
Kostoulas began his career with Agia Anna Volos before he moved to Olympiacos in 2019, where he went on to graduate through their youth ranks, and scored five goals in eight appearances as Olympiacos won 2023-24 UEFA Youth League for the first time.
His performances earned a promotion to the senior squad for this season where he enjoyed a strong first senior campaign, which included a brace in a 2-1 home win over Aris in Super League Greece as Olympiacos proceeded to win that competition plus Greek Football Cup.
