Liverpool Football Club have vowed to provide “full support” to emergency services and authorities after a major incident was declared at their Premier League title victory parade.
Liverpool held their Premier League trophy parade today (26 May) through the city and shortly after 6pm BST, a car drove through fans on Water Street, with the cause of the incident currently unexplained and subject to a police investigation.
Merseyside Police proceeded to release a statement confirming that ” a male has been detained” – although it is unclear if it is the driver of the car or a fan, whilst the car remains at the scene, alongside emergency services dealing with those affected by the incident.
Later in the evening, the police confirmed that there had been no fatalities but 27 people in total needed hospital treatment – including four children, whilst a further 20 people were treated at the scene without needing to visit hospital.
