Newcastle United have announced that they will go on a two-match pre-season tour in South Korea, where they will play in the 2025 Coupang Play Series.

Eddie Howe’s Magpies have already announced a pre-season trip to Celtic for 19 July in Glasgow, Scotland, before they then meet Arsenal in Kallang, Singapore, on 27 July, but have now added two Coupang Play Series friendlies to the schedule in South Korea.

Fixture dates and venues haven’t been confirmed yet for the Coupang Play Series matches but Newcastle have confirmed that they will face a K-League Select XI in their first game, before meeting Tottenham Hotspur in their second game within the country.

Ticket details will be announced in due course for both local and international fans wishing to attend the games.

Newcastle will be the second English club to meet a K-League Select XI after Spurs who featured in that game in 2022 and 2024, with Son Heung-min scoring twice in both of Tottenham’s appearances against his home country’s top-flight.

Manchester City also previously participated in the friendly series in 2023, but instead met Spain’s Atletico Madrid where they suffered a 2-1 defeat as Ruben Dias scored a consolatory goal after Memphis Depay and Yannick Carrasco sealed Atletico’s eventual win.

Confirmation of the pre-season trip to South Korea comes after Newcastle secured UEFA Champions League qualification for the second time in three seasons, plus ended their 70-year domestic title drought with the Carabao Cup triumph over Liverpool in March’s final.
