Ella Morris has received her maiden senior England call-up for UEFA Women’s Nations League clashes against Portugal and Spain.
Morris’ first call-up comes after a breakthrough season at Tottenham, where she scored her first WSL goal in 13 appearances.
Lucy Parker and Millie Turner however have both been omitted from the defensive selection.
In midfield, Maisie Symonds has been dropped following Georgia Stanway’s return to action after a lengthy knee injury suffered in January.
Missy-Bo Kearns is also back in the squad a year after her first call-up, having enjoyed a strong season with Aston Villa.
Chloe Kelly and Alessia Russo are back in the forward selection after the pair missed England’s away defeat to Belgium in April, due to respective foot and ankle injuries.
Michelle Agyemang has retained her place in the squad after she was called up as a replacement for the trip to Belgium, where she scored on debut in an impressive display.
Lauren James misses out with a hamstring injury, which has paved the away for Lauren Hemp to return after a knee injury kept her sidelined since November 2024.
Sarina Wiegman has opted to name an unchanged goalkeeping line-up consisting of; Mary Earps, Hannah Hampton, Anna Moorhouse and Khiara Keating.
Wiegman described the games against Portugal and Spain as “a big challenge” which will ensure that the team are ready for this summer’s UEFA Women’s Euro title defence in Switzerland, although her immediate focus is on making improvements after a tricky double-header against Belgium.
“At the same time, it is important that we focus first on what is right in front of us and ending the Nations League campaign in the best possible way. We have reflected upon two different performances against Belgium in April and although there were positives to take, there is more we want and need to improve on.”
Wiegman also spoke of the decision to call up 27 players as she explained that the priority is to assess the squad ahead of naming the Euros squad.
“We have the possibility of seeing 27-players in our environment and that’s a real positive. It will give us more good information to make important decisions in the near future.”
Wiegman’s Lionesses host Portugal in their penultimate group game at Wembley Stadium on Friday 30 May at 7:45pm BST, where a win would definitely take the battle to top the group and secure a knockout spot to the final match of the group stage.
Should that indeed happen then England will head to Spain for a winners-take-all showdown on Tuesday 3 June at 7:00pm CEST (6:00pm UK Time).
Both matches will be broadcast live across ITV in the UK, with schedule details to be announced closer to the date.
