Portsmouth host relegation-battling Hull in a crucial match on the final day of the 2024-25 Sky Bet Championship season.
Victory could see Portsmouth finish as high as 14th if Norwich and QPR slip up elsewhere, whilst Hull realistically must win to stay up if any of Stoke, Derby, Preston or Luton slip up.
A draw however could be enough for Hull to survive if either Luton or Preston lose due to the Tigers’ better goal difference.
Team News
Adil Aouchiche is ruled out for Portsmouth with a wrist injury which saw him miss their 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday.
Alexander Milosevic (calf), Thomas Waddingham, Jordan Williams (both hamstring), Hayden Matthews (ankle), Ibane Bowat, Paddy Lane, Kusini Yengi and Jacob Farrell (all knee) remain sidelined.
Hull will be without Regan Slater after he suffered an ankle injury in their defeat to Derby.
John Egan (back) faces a late fitness check but Dougan Sinik (fitness), Louie Barry (knee), Mohamed Belloumi, Eliot Matazo, Liam Millar (all ACL) and Oscar Zambrano (personal) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Portsmouth host Hull at Fratton Park on Saturday 3 May at 12:30pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ Red Button in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Portsmouth have lost three of their last six meetings against Hull (W2, D1, L3).
- Hull have avoided defeat in three of their last five trips to Portsmouth (W2, D1, L2)
- Portsmouth have scored in 14 of their last 15 league games at home against Hull – except for a 4-0 loss in January 2021.
- Colby Bishop has scored four goals in two of Portsmouth’s last three matches.
- No Hull player has been involved in more league goals this season than Abu Kamara, who has produced five goals and three assists in 35 appearances.
Prediction
If Portsmouth’s home form had been half as bad as their away form this season then they would be down yet they are somehow mathematically safe and at home on the final day, so this is a creditable well-earned opportunity for them to let go and play without pressure with view to finishing this campaign on a high.
Hull meanwhile were simply wasteful against Derby and now need to ideally win to give themselves the best chance possible of survival, so a strong start and the first goal is realistically needed if they’re to stay up but their inconsistency makes it tough to call.
Portsmouth on the other hand are unbeaten in their last four games and with confidence finally building, I fancy them to nick this and send Hull down.
Prediction: Portsmouth 1-0 Hull
Result: Portsmouth 1-1 Hull
