Aston Villa meet Tottenham Hotspur in a huge Fourth Round tie in 2024-25 FA Cup.
Victory will see Villa reach the fifth round for the first time in ten years, whilst Spurs can advance from this stage for the fifth time in six seasons.
Team News
Villa’s new loan signing, Axel Diasi is cup-tied after he played for Chelsea in their Third Round win over Morecambe.
Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio however could make their debuts after making loan switches from Manchester United and PSG respectively.
Ollie Watkins is unlikely to feature after he suffered a groin injury in their Premier League loss at Wolves last weekend.
Ross Barkley, Matty Cash (both calf), Tyrone Mings (knee) and Pau Torres (metatarsal) remain sidelined,
Tottenham will be without Richarlison after he suffered a calf injury in their Carabao Cup semi-final exit at Liverpool on Thursday evening.
Guglielmo Vicario (ankle), Brennan Johnson, James Maddison (both calf), Radu Dragusin (ACL), Cristian Romero (quad), Mickey van de Ven (fitness), Dominic Solanke (knee) Wilson Odobert, Destiny Udogie and Timo Werner (all hamstring) are still sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Villa host Tottenham at Villa Park on Sunday 9 February at 5:35pm GMT, live on BBC One in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Villa have won one of their last six FA Cup ties against Tottenham (W1, L5), although their win only came via 1-0 result in an away replay at White Hart Lane in January 1992 after a goalless draw at Villa Park
- Tottenham are yet to lose away to Villa in the FA Cup (W2, D1).
- Villa are yet to score at home against Tottenham in the FA Cup, having conceded three goals in two of their three previous home ties.
- Villa have won one of their last seven FA Cup ties against Premier League opposition (W1, L6),
- Tottenham have won two of their last five FA Cup matches away to fellow top-flight opposition (W2, D1, L2).
Prediction
Although nothing really went right for Villa at Wolves last weekend with sloppy marking of both goals and a lack of sharp end product, I do expect them to bounce back here given their home form this season and the arrivals of Rashford plus Asensio add fresh quality up front especially if Watkins is rested.
Tottenham meanwhile were simply lacklustre in their Carabao Cup exit at Liverpool with little attacking bite whilst their defence simply imploded in the second half, so a huge improvement is required but Richarlison’s injury is the last thing that they need especially with several players still not fit enough to return for this game.
If I am being honest, I do think that Spurs need a miracle to keep their unbeaten FA Cup away record at Villa as this is the Villains to lose if they turn up and deliver a clinical performance.
Prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Tottenham
Result: Aston Villa 2-1 Tottenham
