2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week 27 – Sunday

Leeds United meet Sheffield Wednesday in a Yorkshire derby at Elland Road.

Victory will return Leeds to the summit of the table, whilst Sheffield Wednesday can go ninth with a win.

Team News

Pascal Struijk is ruled out for Leeds with a hamstring injury suffered in training this week, having featured in their FA Cup win over Harrogate Town last weekend.

Patrick Bamford and Junior Firpo both remain sidelined with hamstring injuries.

Sheffield Wednesday have no fresh injury concerns following their FA Cup exit at Coventry.

Dominic Iofra (hamstring) and Akin Famewo (muscle) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Leeds host Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road on Sunday 19 January at 12pm GMT, live on ITV1 and Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leeds have lost one of their last five league meetings against Sheffield Wednesday (W2, D2, L1).
  • Sheffield Wednesday have claimed seven points in their last five visits to Leeds (W2, D1, L2).
  • Leeds have conceded twice in two of their last four home games against the Owls.
  • Daniel Farke’s Whites have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven home matches in the Championship (W6, D1).
  • Josh Windass has scored in each of Sheffield Wednesday’s last three Championship away games (W1, D1, L1).

Prediction

Having grinded out a narrow win over Harrogate despite naming a strong team, Farke will hope that his Whites can step it up a gear and show more of their clinical attacking flair especially at home where they’ve been strong all season.

Sheffield Wednesday though have found form on the road in recent weeks with just one loss in their last five away trips in the Championship but defending is an issue, having conceded 10 goals in their last four league games which is something that will give Leeds belief.

Nevertheless, I can see the Owls causing issues on the attack but if their defence doesn’t tighten up, I can see Leeds having the edge here.

Prediction: Leeds 2-1 Sheffield Wednesday

Result: Leeds 3-0 Sheffield Wednesday
