Everton have re-appointed David Moyes as manager until June 2027.
Moyes has signed a two-and-a-half year contract which will see him at the helm for the remainder of their final season at Goodison Park, alongside the next two seasons at Everton’s new stadium based at Bramley-Moore Dock.
The ex West Ham manager left Everton in May 2013 to replace his Scottish compatriot, Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, in what proved to be a difficult spell that saw him sacked in April 2014 as the Red Devils stuttered to an eventual seventh=placed finish the Premier League.
Moyes since went on to take charge of Real Sociedad and Sunderland before he enjoyed two spells at West Ham, during which he led the Hammers to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2022-23 season before he stood down at the end of last season.
After seven months out of management, Moyes is happy to return to Everton who sit 16th and just one point above the relegation zone, with Sean Dyche having been sacked on Thursday (9 January), just mere hours before their FA Cup win at home to Peterborough.
“It’s great to be back! I enjoyed 11 wonderful and successful years at Everton and didn’t hesitate when I was offered the opportunity to rejoin this great club.
“I’m excited to be working with The Friedkin Group and I am looking forward to helping them rebuild the club.
“Now we need Goodison and all Evertonians to play their part in getting behind the players in this important season so we can move into our fabulous new stadium as a Premier League team.”
Everton Executive Chairman, Marc Watts added: “We are pleased that David is joining us at this pivotal time in Everton’s history.
“With over a decade of experience at the club, he is the right leader to propel us through our final season at Goodison Park and into our new stadium. We look forward to working with David to build the foundation of a new era for Everton.”
Moyes’ first match in charge will see the Toffees host Aston Villa at Goodison Park on Wednesday 15 January, live on TNT Sports in the UK at 7:30pm GMT.
