Everton have sacked Sean Dyche as Men’s First-Team manager just hours before their Third Round tie against Peterborough in the FA Cup.
Dyche’s departure comes as the Toffees lie 16th in the Premier League and a single point above the relegation zone, having claimed 17 points in 20 league matches this season.
Announcing Dyche’s exit in a club statement, Everton said: “Everton Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as Senior Men’s First Team Manager with immediate effect.
“Ian Woan, Steve Stone, Mark Howard and Billy Mercer have also left the Club.
“The process to appoint a new manager is under way and an update will be provided in due course.
“Under-18s Head Coach Leighton Baines and Club Captain Seamus Coleman will take charge of first-team affairs on an interim basis.”
The Toffees now must focus on their Third Round tie at home to League One’s Peterborough United at 7:45pm GMT tonight, which passed a safety check in light of freezing temperatures and icy road conditions on Merseyside and surrounding Goodison Park.
Dyche arrived at the Toffees in late January 2023 and kept the club up in each of the last two seasons in 17th then 15th positions respectively, during which he led them to a first home win over local rivals, Liverpool since 2010 at Goodison Park.
