2024-25 League 2: Week 26 – Swindon vs Crewe Alexandra

Relegation-battling Swindon host promotion-chasing Crewe Alexandra at the County Ground in a huge League Two fixture.

Victory will lift Swindon up to 18th if Tranmere fail to win at Walsall in the lunchtime kick-off, whilst Crewe can stay second with a win.

New loan signing, Tom Nichols could make his debut for Swindon.

George Cox is ruled out for eight weeks with a foot injury which he suffered in their 2-0 defeat at Notts County.

Crewe will be without James Connolly after he suffered a hamstring injury in their 4-1 home win against Bromley.

Kane Hemmings (foot) and Conor Thomas (knee) remain absent.

Prediction

Anything other than defeat was a tough ask for Swindon away at Notts County but they didn’t disgrace themselves aside from two costly first-half defensive errors, but this is going to be an even tougher test defensively despite their recent strong home performances.

Crewe meanwhile absolutely blew Bromley away with a well-controlled clinical display in difficult conditions and will come here with real confidence, but they’ve won just one of their last six away games in the league which shows that they can be beaten on the road if the opposition nail their tactics.

Swindon’s defence though does look vulnerable and unless the hosts turn up and try to play for a draw like they did at Bromley a fortnight ago, I can’t see Crewe losing this if they’re at their best.
