F1 have announced a new diversity and inclusion charter in agreement with FIA and all ten constructors.
The charter comes as F1 continues to respond to a Hamilton Commission report unveiled in 2021, which exposed diversity issues within motorsport with F1’s new charter seeking to address issues.
F1’s Diversity and Inclusion Charter therefore aims to enable access and contribution to motorsport for people across all backgrounds and abilities, by removing barriers to enable more inclusive work forces and drive innovation.
Within the report, there will be four commitments to support the charter’s ambitions;
- Attract – Target and support initiatives to attract underrepresented groups into motorsport. with improved recruitment practices.
- Retain – Create processes aimed at mitigating bias and create inclusive cultures.
- Create – Encourage all perspectives across design, development and delivery of products and services.
- Engage – Communicate commitment to diversity and inclusion with stakeholders to allow learning and improvement in delivering experiences.
F1 President and CEO, Stefano Domenicali has welcomed the charter with aim to improve the range in “diversity of thought, ideas, and experiences.”
Domenicali clarified that “significant changes” are in place but iterated that this announcement represents a huge step forward for the “fiercely competitive” sport.
“The charter is the next important milestone on that journey, and we are all committed to making our sport more open and diverse.”
FIA President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem added: “The diversification of motorsport is paramount to its continued success.
“Through ensuring equal opportunity for equal talent, increasing accessibility, and joining together in our commitment to uphold this charter, we will drive forward change.
“This landmark partnership between Formula 1, the teams, and our Federation signifies a united course of action which I am proud to be a part of.”
