2024-25 UEFA Nations League: League B – England vs Ireland

England host Republic of Ireland in their concluding 2024-25 UEFA Nations League B2 clash.

Victory would see England achieve automatic promotion to League A regardless of Greece’s result, but a draw or defeat would mean that Greece can go up if they better the Three Lions’ result.

Ireland will finish third in the group no matter the result here.

Team News

England will be without defender, Ezri Konsa after he suffered an injury in their 3-0 away win over Greece in Athens on Thursday evening.

Ireland will be without Jason Knight who is suspended, having picked up his second booking in a 1-0 home win over Finland.

When is Kick-Off?

England host Ireland at Wembley Stadium, London, on Sunday 17 November at 5pm GMT, live on ITV1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • England won 2-0 away in their only previous Nations League meeting against Ireland.
  • Ireland are visiting England for the first time in this competition but are winless in their last seven trips in all competitions (D3, L4).
  • Two of England’s last three home games against Ireland ended in 1-1 draws, except for a 3-0 friendly win in November 2020.
  • England have kept three clean sheets in their five group matches.
  • No Irish player has produced more shots in this group than Evan Ferguson, who has delivered nine shots – of which four were on target with one goal.

Prediction

Despite missing several key players in Athens, England looked more hungry and energetic than they’ve in ages with a ruthless attacking press – of which they should try and build on if want to impress incoming boss, Thomas Tuchel.

Ireland though won’t be easy opposition if can play with more consistent intensity and resilience than they did in the reverse fixture, but they will have confidence from that clinical win over Finland.

England however are a step up in quality and knowing that victory would be enough for promotion, I expect the Three Lions to get the job done here no matter what the Irish throw at them.

Prediction: England 2-0 ROI

Result: England 5-0 ROI
