2024-25 Premier League: Week Nine – Arsenal vs Liverpool

Arsenal meet Liverpool at Emirates Stadium in a blockbuster Premier League encounter.

Victory would move Arsenal up to third and within one point of Arne Slot’s Reds, whilst Liverpool can go back top with a win.

Team News

William Saliba is suspended for Arsenal after he was sent off in their 2-0 league loss to Bournemouth last weekend.

Riccardo Calafiori suffered a knee injury during their midweek Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk, but he will face a late fitness test alongside; Jurrien Timber (muscle) and Bukayo Saka (hamstring).

Martin Odegaard (ankle), Takehiro Tomiyasu (knee) and Kieran Tierney (hamstring) remain sidelined.

Liverpool could welcome Conor Bradley back into contention after the fullback missed their wins over Chelsea and RB Leipzig with an unspecified injury.

Alisson (hamstring), Diogo Jota (rib), Federico Chiesa (knock) and Harvey Elliott (foot) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Arsenal host Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Sunday 27 October at 4:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last four league meetings against Liverpool (W2, D2).
  • Liverpool have won two of their last five league visits to Arsenal (W2, L3).
  • Five of Arsenal’s last six goals at home against Liverpool were scored by Gabriel Martinelli (2) and Saka (3).
  • Kai Havertz and Gabriel Martinelli have both scored in each of Arsenal’s last two league matches at home.
  • Mohamed Salah has scored in three of Liverpool’s four away games this season.

Prediction

Following their lacklustre loss at Bournemouth, Arsenal will be pleased with how they rebounded with a clinical midweek win over Shakhtar Donetsk despite not putting in a top performance.

Injuries however could be what holds Arsenal back from a title challenge this season so having Timbers and Saka available here is key, especially given their quality and Saliba’s absence at the heart of the defence.

Liverpool meanwhile weren’t at their own best as they scraped a winner at RB Leipzig but with less injuries and their key players fit, they know that they have a chance of winning this if can get at Arsenal’s weakened defence.

Nevertheless there are goals within both teams here but unless Arsenal can adapt in defence without Saliba, I can see Liverpool snatching this.

Prediction: Arsenal 1-2 Liverpool

Result: Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool
