Ian Holloway has replaced Mark Kennedy as Swindon Town manager.

Kennedy was sacked this morning (25 October) with Swindon sat 22nd in League Two, and just three points above the relegation zone after 13 league games this season.

Swindon subsequently confirmed less than three hours later that Holloway would take charge until end of the current season.

Holloway is “delighted” to return to the dugout for the first time since he resigned as Grimsby manager in December 2020, feeling that this role is “the perfect fit” for him.

With EFL survival now the main aim for the remainder of the season, Holloway issued a message to supporters, ahead of tomorrow’s (26 October) home game against Gillingham which he is attending as a spectator before taking charge on 28 October.

“I want to be able to bring everyone together to deliver success and positivity on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to be at The Nigel Eady County Ground tomorrow to meet you all for the first time as Swindon Town Manager and I look forward to a successful time working together.”

Swindon’s Head of Football, Jamie Russell is “delighted” to sign an experienced EFL manager in Holloway, who he believes can produce a “confident” impact upon the club in their fight to stay up.

“His passionate approach coupled with his location being more local to the South-West area along with most importantly, a desire to build a hardworking and entertaining side is a large part of what made us believe he would be the ideal fit for us.

“Additionally, Ian’s ability to help grow, develop and nurture not only our first-team players but also the dedicated coaching staff we have at Swindon Town was important to us.”

Russell also confirmed that Marcus Bignot, Steve Mildenhall and Gavin Gunning will lead the team against Gillingham, and stay on afterwards as part of Holloway’s coaching staff.

“We hope that this exciting blend of coaching experience will get the very best out of our talented squad as we look to our next game against Gillingham tomorrow afternoon.”
