Middlesbrough host Sheffield United at Riverside Stadium in midweek Championship action.
Victory would see Boro climb to eighth in the table, whilst Sheffield Utd can go third if Burnley loses at Hull.
Team News
Middlesbrough have no fresh injury concerns after their 2-0 loss to Bristol City, although manager – Michael Carrick could rotate his squad.
Dael Fry (fitness), Jonny Howson and Tommy Conway (both hamstring) are doubts but Darragh Lenihan (fitness), Lukas Engel (muscle) and Tommy Smith (Achilles) are still sidelined.
Sheffield Utd have no fresh injury concerns as Tom Davies (hamstring) remains sidelined.
Vinicius Souza however is suspended after he picked up his fifth booking in their 2-0 loss at Leeds.
When is Kick-Off?
Middlesbrough host Sheffield Utd at Riverside Stadium on Wednesday 23 October at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Middlesbrough have claimed seven points in their last five meetings against Sheffield Utd (W2, D1, L2).
- Sheffield Utd are winless in their last seven league trips to Boro (D2, L5).
- Middlesbrough have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven home games against Sheffield Utd in all competitions.
- A loss would see Carrick’s Boro suffer three consecutive defeats for the first time since December 2023.
- Sheffield Utd have conceded just five league goals this season, of which just one goal was conceded in the first half.
Prediction
Consistency seems to be Boro’s problem so far this season because every time they make a step forward results wise, they seem to go back which is a worry if want to push for promotion.
Carrick though will be disappointed by how his team wasted chances against Bristol City who deserved their clinical win, so a huge reaction is needed if they want to return to winning ways.
Sheffield Utd meanwhile were simply lacklustre in their loss at Leeds with no shots converted onto goal, but their defence though was tough to beat until Daniel Farke’s Whites clinically found their way through.
Both teams therefore need to produce big responses here but with home advantage and solid form on Teesside over the Blades, Middlesbrough could edge this if cut out the errors otherwise I can see a draw.
Prediction: Middlesbrough 1-1 Sheffield United
Result: Middlesbrough 1-0 Sheffield United
