Atalanta host Celtic in the league phase of 2024-25 UEFA Champions League.
Victory would put Atalanta into the top eight if Manchester City and Sparta Prague draw elsewhere in the late kick-off, whilst Inter Milan fail to beat Young Boys.
Celtic meanwhile can move into the knockout play-off seeding positions with a win and above Atalanta.
Team News
Sead Kolasinac is a doubt for Atalanta after he missed their Serie A 2-0 win at Venezia.
Marco Brescianini (thigh), Odilon Kossounou, Rafael Toloi (both muscle), Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca (both ACL) are ruled out.
Celtic have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-2 Scottish Premiership draw against Aberdeen.
Cameron Carter-Vickers (foot) is unlikely to feature but Greg Taylor (hamstring) is sidelined.
When is Kick-Off?
Atalanta host Celtic at Gewiss Stadium on Wednesday 23 October at 6:45pm CEST (5:45pm UK Time), live on TNT Sport 2 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Atalanta’s first meeting against Celtic in all UEFA competitions.
- Celtic are visiting Atalanta for the first time in a competitive fixture.
- This fixture marks Atalanta’s very first competitive fixture against Scottish opposition in all UEFA competitions.
- Atalanta are yet to concede in the league phase this season (W1, D1).
- Daizen Maeda has scored in each of Celtic’s two matches in the league phase (W1, L1).
Prediction
Unbeaten in their last four matches amidst mounting injury issues, Atalanta will nevertheless be as dangerous as usual especially after a clinical well-controlled win at Venezia.
Celtic meanwhile have hit a defensive rut with no clean sheets this month and after they were thrashed by Borussia Dortmund in their last Champions League game, I do expect them to be tighter at the back but they have the attack to cause issues.
I therefore do expect an initially cagey start but both teams are capable of matching each other, so a draw would be a fair result.
Prediction: Atalanta 1-1 Celtic
Result: Atalanta 0-0 Celtic
