2024-25 Sky Bet Championship: Week Eight – Wednesday

Preston North End host promotion-chasing Watford at Deepdale in a Championship clash.

Depending on results elsewhere, victory could see Preston climb out of the relegation zone and into 19th position.

Watford can go fourth with a win and back into the play-off spots.

Team News

Preston have no fresh injury concerns to report after a 3-1 loss at Millwall, as Sam Greenwood serves the second of a three-match suspension.

Watford also have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 2-1 home win over Sunderland.

Daniel Bachmann and Francisco Sierralta remain sidelined with muscle injuries.

When is Kick-Off?

Preston host Watford at Deepdale on Wednesday 2 October at 8pm BST, live on Sky Sports + in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Preston are winless in their last six league meetings against Watford (D3, L3).
  • Watford have claimed eight points in their last seven league visits to Preston (W2, D2, L3).
  • Three of Preston’s last four meetings against Watford finished goalless.
  • Preston have kept clean sheets in each of their last two league matches at home (W1, D1).
  • Watford have conceded seven league goals away from home this season (W1, L2).

Prediction

After a defensively poor display at Millwall, Preston certainly will see squad rotation in effect because they need to show more desire, end product and pace in attack, but equally cut out their sloppy defending if want to climb the table.

Watford meanwhile have been poor on their travels this season but if I was in charge, I would urge the players to view this as a winnable opportunity if can get at Preston’s defence with intensity after a clinical win over Sunderland.

In fact I just can’t see Preston getting a result if Watford turn up and finally hit their stride on their away boots, because Tom Cleverley’s Hornets are capable of a few goals if can cut out their defensive errors.

Prediction: Preston 0-2 Watford

Result: Preston 3-0 Watford
