Brighton & Hove Albion has signed forward, Georginio Rutter from Leeds United in a £40m transfer deal.

Rutter’s move came after he provided an assist in his only appearance for Leeds this season, as the Whites snatched a 3-3 draw against Portsmouth in their opening game of the season.

Rutter last season produced eight goals and 17 assists in 51 appearances for Leeds, with the Whites still in the Championship after they failed to regain instant promotion back to the Premier League.

The Seagulls subsequently activated Rutter’s release clause with a £40m offer, with the forward signing a five-year contract until June 2029.

Brighton manager, Fabian Hürzeler believes that Rutter can add quality to the squad this season.

“Georginio is a player who has the capabilities to get fans off their seats and really showed what he can do in English football with Leeds last season — but I have known about him since he played in Germany for Hoffenheim.

“Now we have to integrate him into the team. We’re looking forward to working with him.”

Leeds meanwhile thanked Rutter “… for his efforts both on and off the pitch, along with his exemplary attitude and professionalism during his time at the club.

“We wish him all the very best for the future.”

Rutter began his career with Menimur then Vannes before he joined Rennes and graduated through their academy, to score one goal in five appearances before he went on to join TSG Hoffenheim where he netted 11 goals in 64 outings.

January 2023 saw Rutter move to Leeds but couldn’t prevent their relegation to the second tier five months later, but has now left with eight goals and 19 assists produced in 66 appearances.

Rutter represents France internationally and has graduated through several youth levels, but is yet to earn a senior call-up.
