2024-25 Carabao Cup: First Round – Bromley vs AFC Wimbledon

EFL newcomers, Bromley host AFC Wimbledon in a blockbuster London derby in the First Round of 2024-25 Carabao Cup.

Bromley are making their bow in this competition, whilst AFC Wimbledon will seek to get past this stage for the third time in four seasons.

Team News

Josh Passley is a doubt for Bromley after he suffered an injury in the first half of their League 2 win at Harrogate.

AFC Wimbledon have no fresh injury concerns to report after their comeback 4-2 win over Colchester.

Manager, Johnnie Jackson however has confirmed that he will rotate his squad for this tie, ahead of their league meeting on Saturday.

When is Kick-Off?

Bromley entertain AFC Wimbledon at Hayes Lane on Tuesday 13 August at 7:45pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Bromley’s first Carabao Cup meeting against AFC Wimbledon.
  • AFC Wimbledon have won just one of their last five visits to Bromley in all competitions at Hayes Lane (W1, D2, L2).
  • In the Non League version of this competition (FA Trophy), Bromley avoided exiting upon their first round of entry in each of last four seasons.
  • AFC Wimbledon lost at this stage in one of the last three seasons.

Prediction

Having came through a tricky opening EFL debut with a clinical performance in which they looked the more confident and comfortable, Bromley now need to again be at their best if want anything from this contest.

AFC Wimbledon meanwhile certainly showed their attacking spirit and flair to fight back against Colchester, but they were slow defensively in the opening phase which can’t be repeated if want to win this tie.

Both teams though will have their eyes on a mouth-watering league tie on Saturday so a win here will be great for mentality, but I do expect this to be quite cagey and Bromley might just have the edge at home even if need penalties.

Prediction: Bromley 1-1 AFC Wimbledon (Bromley to win on penalties)

Result: Bromley 1-2 AFC Wimbledon
