Middlesbrough have signed midfielder, Micah Hamilton from Manchester City.

Hamilton is the second player in consecutive summer transfer windows to make the switch from Man City to Boro, after Morgan Rogers who was sold to Aston Villa in February 2021 for a considerable profit.

Boro however have paid a fee of circa £3.5m for Hamilton in contrast to the £1.5m deal for Rogers in July 2023, with City this time having a buy-back clause in the region of £11m plus a sell-on clause inserted within Hamilton’s transfer.

Boro boss, Michael Carrick has welcomed Hamilton’s arrival as he explained: “Micah is an exciting young player who we’re looking forward to working with.

Man City meanwhile wished Hamilton well in a short statement: “Everyone at City would like to wish Micah the best of luck in his future career and thank him for his efforts.”

“He’s already been in and around the senior side at Man City – he’s got that experience from playing in the Champions League – and he is another great addition to the squad.”

Hamilton began his career with Man City where he graduated through their youth academy, and was included in the senior squad for the first time in a Carabao Cup loss at Newcastle United in September 2023.

The youngster eventually made his professional debut in December 2023 in a 3-2 away win over Red Star Belgrade in the UEFA Champions League, in which he scored his first senior goal to put City 1-0 up at half-time.

Hamilton also featured in City’s successful title-winning squad at 2023 FIFA Club World Cup, albeit as an unused substitute in their two matches.

The 20 year-old represents England at international youth level, having initially featured for the Under-18s but was promoted into the U20s squad in March 2024.
