Aston Villa have signed forward, Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough in a transfer deal worth £15million.
Rogers joined Middlesbrough from Manchester City in July 2023 for £1.5m and has gone on to score seven goals and created eight assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, of which he produced one goal and assist apiece in EFL Cup wins over Bolton and Port Vale.
The 21 year’s final goal in a Boro shirt came in his last appearance for the club as they suffered a 6-1 second-leg semi-final defeat at Chelsea to exit the Carabao Cup, having won the first leg at home through Hayden Hackney’s winner.
His performances ultimately caught the eye of Villa manager, Unai Emery who has swoopd for the 21 year-old, with two previous bids rejected until the clubs agreed an initial £8m fee up front with up to £7m in add-ons to take the total fee up to £15m.
Villa have also paid off Man City’s 25% sell-on clause as part of the deal which has brought Rogers to Villa Park.
Rogers has signed a five-and-a-half year contract at Villa which will see him play for the club until June 2029, and he will wear the number 27 shirt which was previously worn by Lucas Digne last season.
The forward has since taken to X to post a farewell message to his now ex Middlesbrough teammates, staff and fans.
I want to thank everyone associated with Boro for a memorable time. To the players, the staff and also you fans for supporting me the short time I’ve been here! I’ll always be grateful of the fact I got to represent such an amazing club. I’ll see you all soon❤️ MR @Boro
