League One contains 24 teams who will play each other home and away across 46 matches.
The team who collects the most points (win – three points, draw – one point, loss – zero points) will be crowned champion and promoted to Championship at end of season, alongside the second-placed team.
Those ranked 3-6 will contest the play-offs with 3rd v 6th and 4th v 5th in two-legged semi-finals, with the semi-final winners meeting in the Play-Off Final to determine the final team to gain promotion to the third-tier.
Whoever finishes in the bottom four positions will be relegated to League Two for next season.

Five Teams to Watch in 2024-25 Season
- Birmingham City – Having invested well this summer, Chris Davies’ Blues will be expected to fight for automatic promotion given their financial backing.
- Bolton – Having fallen short of promotion last season, Ian Evatt’s Trotters will be expected to fight for automatic promotion again.
- Crawley – Following the loss of key players this summer, it is difficult to predict how the Red Devils will fare this season.
- Wigan – With no points deduction to contend with at start of season, Shaun Maloney’s Latics hopefully can target the play-offs after a positive transfer window.
- Wrexham – With the core squad still intact and having won successive promotions, Phil Parkinson’s side certainly should target play-offs at minimum.
