Alpine have appointed Oliver Oakes as their new Team Principal.

Oakes’ arrival comes after Bruno Famin stepped down from his role following the Belgian Grand Prix, with Alpine sat eighth in the constructors’ standings with 11 points from 14 races.

Oakes previously headed Hitech GP who race in F2, F3 and other junior categories, during which he guided Nikita Mazepin to F1 with a fifth-placed finish in 2020 F2 season.

Speaking about his decision to depart Hitech GP  to take up the role at Alpine, Oakes was “extremely grateful” to CEO, Luca de Meo for trusting him to take the reins and spearhead a return to competitive levels.

“The team is made up of talented people and has excellent resources. I’m confident that we can accomplish a lot together for the rest of this season and in the longer term. I can’t wait to start after the summer break.”

De Meo added: “It is a real pleasure to welcome Oli and to see him become one of the youngest team principals in the history of the sport.

“This team is being built for future success, as evidenced by Oli’s appointment to such a position. We look forward to capturing his enthusiasm, energy and passion for racing to instil that mindset throughout the team.”

Supervisor and ex Team Principal, Flavio Briatore is “delighted” to welcome Oakes and credited the Brit for his ability to deliver results within motorsport.

“Oli is extremely talented and has a strong track record of leadership and success in motorsport.

“His appointment to this position is a great example of our strength and confidence in our team and in young talent, and I look forward to working closely with him in our common goal of moving up the hierarchy and winning races.”

Oakes’ arrival at Alpine adds a further twist in Alpine’s search for Esteban Ocon’s replacement next season, with F2 title contender and Hitech driver – Paul Aron now considered to join Jack Doohan and Mick Schumacher as frontrunners for the seat.
