MK Dons have signed goalkeeper, Tom McGill on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion for 2024-25 season.
This season-long loan will be McGill’s first campaign away from Brighton since he spent 2020 on loan at Crawley across two seasons – before he was recalled in January 2021.
McGill has since been part of the Seagulls’ Under-21s squad primarily but he also was in and out of the first-team squad as an unused substitute, especially in the final month of the 2022-23 season after Robert Sanchez fell out of favour.
Speaking about his decision to join MK Dons on a season-long loan, McGill explained that he was keen to play with freedom and gain regular game time.
“It was an easy decision for me after a couple of conversations with the gaffer, I got told you can play with freedom, within the realms of what we’re trying to do here, and that’s all any player wants to hear really!
“For me, having a run of games, having the freedom to play under a gaffer that plays a similar style to what I’m used to, that’s all I’m after, winning and success with a team that deserves it I think.”
MK Dons manager, Mike Williamson added that he believes that McGill will be able to develop his game under his guidance this season.
“We ask a lot of our goalkeepers, and that’ll be no different for Tom. He’s a bright, energetic player who we’re confident has the footballing intelligence to excel in our system.
“Brighton have done a fantastic job with his development, now it’s up to us to get the best out of him.”
Aside from his 12-month stint at Crawley, McGill previously enjoyed a week-long pre-season loan followed by loan spells at Greenwich Borough and Basingstoke Town, where he made 25 total appearances for the latter clubs.
