Midfielder, Ben Woodburn has joined Salford City on a free transfer.

Woodburn left Preston last month after he produced three goals and two assists across 63 appearances in the last two seasons.

This move sees Woodburn reunite with manger – Karl Robinson, under whom he played for whilst on loan from Liverpool in 2019-20 season, albeit scoring one goal in 16 appearances due to injury.

Speaking about his decision to join Salford on a two-year contract and play under Robinson, Woodburn was excited to be back playing under Robin’s watch.

“Obviously, I have a bit of a connection as I played under the Gaffer at Oxford, me and him got on really well, and it was a bit of a pull to come here with him also being the manager.

“I really enjoyed my time under Karl, it was a shame it got cut short with an injury that I had, but, I am just really excited to get back playing under him.

“I just want to create chances and score goals, hopefully our playing style will be fun for the fans, and hopefully we will have some good games.”

Last season saw Salford finish 20th in League Two after having reached the play-offs in 2022-23 season, but Woodburn is keen to guide the Ammies back up the table.

“Most teams that I have been at, we’ve been pushing for the top end of the table, so hopefully we can do that here and get Salford back where they should be, near the top of the table.”

Woodburn began his career at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp – who recently stood down as manager, and the 24 year-old was keen to pay tribute to him plus ex Wales manager – Ryan Giggs who co-owns Salford City.

“I learnt loads under him, one of the best managers in the world, I’ve played with some of the best players, I just learnt so much, it was a great experience.

“I went off on a few loans to try and get embedded in the Football League, I then got called up for Wales, and that was a very proud moment, and I’ve played under Ryan Giggs which was good.

“He is obviously a legend in the game, we’ve got a good relationship, so that was definitely a pull to come here.”
