Midfielder, Aurora Galli has signed a new contract at Everton.
Since her move from Juventus in late July 2021, Galli has scored four goals in 76 appearances and helped the Toffees reach the Women’s FA Cup Quarter-Finals in two of last three seasons.
“I’m very excited to continue on as an Everton player,” commented Galli to evertontv. as she spoke of the close bond between everyone in the squad and potential to build upon last season’s eighth place in Women’s Super League.
“There is a built-up relationship here with everyone at the Club. I enjoy seeing everyone, I’ve grown with this group and the fans. I cannot wait for the season to get started.
“There is real potential with this group. We have unfinished work from last season because we played good football but made too many mistakes.
“This season isn’t about transition; it’s about showing what we have learnt and what we are capable of doing.
“My hope is this season we are flying.”
Galli adapted her game last season to become a wing-back as well as midfielder, and now believes that she is seen as an individual rather than just player.
“All I want to do is to contribute to the will of the Club,” added Galli. “Evertonians played a big part in that. They are like a second family.
“When I say that, I mean it. Everyone is so kind, they see you as the person and not just the player.
“They are a big part of this club and I’m so happy I can continue to be a part of it.”
Everton Women’s manager, Brian Sorensen added that he is “delighted” to retain Galli who he views as “a key member of our squad both on and off the pitch.”
Sorensen added that Galli – nicknamed Yaya – is a player who he enjoys coaching as he continued: “Yaya is a wonderful human being, a great teammate and a delight for the coaching staff and me to work with.
“When we moved her into a freer role last season, she did really well.
“Hopefully we can build on that this season and she can be even more dangerous in front of goal.
“She has that potential, and it was key for us to keep a player of her quality on board.”
