UEFA Euro 2024: Quarter-Finals – Netherlands vs Turkey

Netherlands face Turkey in a blockbuster concluding Quarter-Final of UEFA Euro 2024.

Victory would see Ronald Koeman’s Dutch achieve a sixth semi-final appearance in this competition.

Turkey meanwhile seek only their second semi-final in this competition, having previously reached the last four at Euro 2008.

 

Team News

Netherlands have no fresh injury concerns following their Round of 16 win over Romania.

Turkey will be without Merih Demiral after he was handed a two-match ban by UEFA for an inappropriate in their win over Austria.

Orkun Kokcu and Ismail Yuksek are also sidelined due to having been booked twice this tournament.

Netherlands meet Turkey at Olympiastadion, Berlin, on Saturday 6 July at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.

• This is Netherlands’ first meeting against Turkey at a major tournament.
• Including Qualifying Phase, Turkey are unbeaten against Netherlands in two previous meetings in this competition (W1, D1), having drawn 1-1 and won 3-0 in Qualifying for Euro 2016.
• Both Netherlands and Turkey have scored in three of their last four meetings in all competitions, except for a 3-0 home win for Turkey in September 2015.
• Three of Netherlands’ seven goals at this tournament were scored by Cody Gakpo.
• Five of Turkey’s seven goals at this tournament were scored after half-time.

 

Prediction

Although they comfortably dispatched Romania, Netherlands were incredibly wasteful in their end product for all of their dominance so I would like to see them show more composure because they can win this game if play like they did last time.

Turkey meanwhile were simply clinical in how they punished Austria early in both halves before defending well to protect their lead, but I do feel that they will need to defend more here but be ruthless when can get forward.

The Dutch though can be their own enemy because if they are wasteful again then Turkey will surely punish them, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Netherlands scrape through.
