With the season nearing its halfway mark, F1 heads to Silverstone for the 2024 British Grand Prix.
After a controversial Austrian GP, Max Verstappen holds a 81-point lead over title rival – Lando Norris coming into Norris’ home Grand Prix, whilst Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton and George Russell will too look to impress on their home turf.
Silverstone also represents the home race for many UK-based teams up and down the grid, with Williams handing Argentina’s Franco Colapinto a maiden FP1 run at their home event.

Five Key Pointers
- High downforce set-ups will be important around Silverstone but a compromise will be needed in order to maximise straight-line speed on the various straights.
- Exit traction will be crucial out of several corners in order to defend on the various straights across the circuit.
- As a home event for many teams who have UK-based factories, there could be various upgrades introduced across the grid this weekend.
- McLaren will once again be expected to challenge Verstappen with the fight set to be much closer than this time 12 months ago given their improved performance.
- Typical UK summer weather means that there is a chance of rain across the whole weekend.
Last Time Out
Verstappen took pole in 2023 but was beaten off the line by Norris but regained the lead into Brooklands on Lap 5, which he held to the checkered flag from the Brit whilst Hamilton jumped Oscar Piastri for third in the pit stop phase during a safety car called on Lap 33.
