Wolves have signed forward, Jørgen Strand Larsen on an initial season-long loan from Celta Vigo, in a deal worth £25.5m.
Strand Larsen’s move comes after he scored 13 goals and produced three assists in 39 appearances for Celta Vigo last season, as the La Liga team reached the Copa del Rey Quarter-Finals amidst a 13th placed league finish.
The 24 year-old has signed on an initial season-long loan at Wolves for £3m, with the Old Gold having the option to sign him permanently for £23m next summer.
Strand Larsen will wear the number 9 shirt which he felt was “an amazing feeling” and has vowed “… to give everything from the first minute. To be wearing that number nine is a huge moment for me and there have been many, many number nines here. The last one was Jimenez and he was amazing here.”
He however is wary of the pressure that the shirt number brings as he added: “I’m really proud to take that number, but I understand that it comes with a lot of hard work, expectation, and important games for me to play, but I’m really looking forward to it and I’m really going to give my everything, and it’s going to be an amazing season, I hope.”
Wolves’ Sporting Director, Matt Hobbs explained that the need for a new forward was “important” and is “really pleased to secure Strand Larsen, who was their “number one target for the position,” ahead of the new season.
Hobbs added that Strand Larsen is still a young player developing his game and is confident that he can excel at Wolves.
“He’s a great guy, who’s got a really good charisma and a great personality, and although he’s still young, still learning and still developing, he’s shown that he can score goals, and puts a lot of work and running in for the rest of the team. We talk a lot about humility at this football club, and he fits that perfectly.
“In Jorgen, we’re getting a guy whose career is on the way up and we hope to keep helping him improve and develop so he can get to the levels we think he can reach.”
Strand Larsen began his career at Norway’s Sarpsborg where he came through their academy – amidst a loan stint at AC Milan – and went on to score 10 goals in 59 appearances, before he moved to Groningen where he delivered 27 goals in 71 appearances.
He spent the last two seasons at Celta Vigo which saw him net just 18 goals in 74 appearances.
On the international stage, Strand Larsen has scored three goals in 14 appearances for Norway which all came last year – in which the Norwegians went on to beat Jordan and Faroe Islands in friendlies whilst they eventually drew 3-3 away to Scotland in their final Euro 2024 qualifier.
