UEFA Euro 2024: Group Stage – Netherlands vs Austria

Netherlands face Austria in their final Group D match at UEFA Euro 2024.

Anything other than defeat would see Ronald Koeman’s Dutch automatically qualify for the knockouts, and can win the group if they better France’s result.

Austria meanwhile must win in order to progress automatically as one of the top-two placed teams, although they can win the group if they better France’s result.

 

Team News

Netherlands have no fresh injury concerns to report after their goalless draw against France, although Joey Veerman and Jerdy Schouten are both one yellow card away from missing the Round of 16 tie.

Austria could be without Gernot Trauner after he suffered a muscle injury during their win over Poland.

Kevin Danso, Maximilian Wober, Phillip Mwene, Konrad Laimer, Christoph Baumgartner, Marko Arnautovic and Patrick Wimmer are all one booking away from suspension.

Prediction

With their slow tempo and organised defence, Netherlands have been quite difficult to break down except from set pieces but they now need to step it up a gear because this is a chance to try and finish top and give themselves an easier looking knockout path.

Austria though are right in the mix after a clinical display against Poland where they looked energetic and dangerous on the attack, which would give them confidence coming into this game where they will need to be quick and clinical to beat the Dutch defence.

With that in mind, I do expect this game to be really competitive but if Austria can get the first goal, I do fancy them to nick this.
