UEFA Euro 2024: Group Stage – France vs Poland

France meet eliminated Poland in their final Group D match at UEFA Euro 2024.

Victory would see France top Group D, whilst Poland are already eliminated from contention in last place.

 

Team News

France have no fresh injury concerns to report following their goalless draw against the Netherlands, but Ousmane Dembele and Kylian Mbappe are one booking away from suspension.

Poland could be without Bartosz Salamon after he sat out their loss to Austria with an ankle injury.

Wojciech Szczesny, Bartosz Slisz, Jakub Moder and Robert Lewandowski are all just one booking from being suspended for Poland’s UEFA Nations League trip to Scotland in September.

France face Poland at Westfalenstadion, Dortmund, on Tuesday 25 June at 6pm CEST (5pm UK Time), live on BBC1 in the UK.

 

Stat Attack

• This is France’s first meeting against Poland at the European Championship Finals.
• Including the Qualifying phase, Poland are winless in four previous meetings against France in the European Championship (D2, L2).
• Both teams have scored in three of their four previous clashes in the Euros, which came in both qualifiers for Euro 1968 then a 1-1 draw in France for Euro 96.
• Only six of France’s 30 shots have been converted onto target in their opening two group matches.
• Defeat would see Poland lose three straight games in all competitions for the first time since October- November 2018.

 

Prediction

Having not looked convincing in front of goal despite managing 30 shots in total, France really need to find their clinical edge now ahead of the knockouts but they do have the quality to really raise their game with players like Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe – who should start here.

Poland though were completely outclassed in the second half against Austria and with no pressure now upon them, this is a chance for them to come out and improve defensively because their attack otherwise hasn’t been too bad.

If the Polish can do that and France continue to fall short in their attack then a draw might be a fair outcome.
