Scotland face Hungary in a must-win showdown to determine the third-placed finisher in Group A at UEFA Euro 2024.
Victory or a draw would see Steve Clarke’s Tartan Army finish third, although a win would potentially guarantee progression as one of four best-placed runner-ups.
Hungary meanwhile must win to stand any chance at progression.
Team News
Kieran Tierney is ruled out for Scotland after he suffered a hamstring injury during their 1-1 draw against Switzerland.
Ryan Porteous is serving the last of his two-match suspension.
Hungary have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 2-0 loss to Germany.
When is Kick-Off?
Scotland meet Hungary at MHPArena, Stuttgart, on Sunday 23 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Scotland’s first competitive meeting against Hungary in all competitions.
- Hungary are unbeaten in three of five previous clashes against Scotland when played as the ‘away’ team (W2, D1, L2).
- Scotland have never won consecutive matches against Hungary in all competitions.
- Clarke’s Tartan Army have kept one clean sheet in their last 11 matches in all competitions (W1, D4, L6).
- Hungary are looking to avoid suffering three consecutive defeats for the first time since September – October 2019.
Prediction
Sat third in the group and knowing that a win would put them onto four points which usually is enough for a knockout spot, Scotland know that they need to play with the same quality as they did against Switzerland but be more clinical and cut out their defensive errors.
Hungary meanwhile simply must win but given how lacklustre their end product has been against Switzerland and Germany, they really need to step their attacking game up a few gears and avoid conceding if want any chance of progression.
Either way there is little room for error for both teams but if Scotland score first, I fancy them to just edge this but Hungary won’t roll over.
Prediction: Scotland 1-0 Hungary
Result: Scotland 0-1 Hungary
