Switzerland meet Germany in a top of Group A showdown at UEFA Euro 2024.
Victory would see Switzerland leapfrog Germany and finish top of Group A, whilst the tournament hosts know that anything but defeat would see them progress as the winners of this group.
Team News
Switzerland have no fresh injury concerns to report following their 1-1 draw against Scotland.
Germany also have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 2-0 win over Hungary.
When is Kick-Off?
Switzerland meet Germany at Waldstadion, Frankfurt, on Sunday 23 June at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on BBC2 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- This is Switzerland’s first-ever meeting against Germany at European Championships.
- Germany have lost one of six previous competitive meetings against Switzerland in all competitions (W2, D3, L1).
- Switzerland are unbeaten in their last three meetings against Germany despite not keeping a clean sheet (W1, D2).
- The Swiss have conceded first in two of their last three matches (W1, D2), of which those two games ended in 1-1 draws against Austria and Scotland respectively.
- Jamal Musiala has scored in each of his last two appearances for Germany (W2).
Prediction
With top spot at stake yet a chance of finishing third if they lose and Scotland beat Hungary, Switzerland can’t really rest players and must just go for it here but be more clinical than they were against the Tartan Army.
Germany meanwhile can rest players which I imagine will happen but given that top spot isn’t assured, I do expect rotation to be minimal really because this is their toughest test yet but they do look solid across the pitch and should really get a result here.
Switzerland though are just as tough to break down so I wouldn’t be surprised if this contest becomes scrappy and finishes level.
Prediction: Switzerland 1-1 Germany
Result: Switzerland 1-1 Germany
