Austria meet France at Dusseldorf Arena in Group D at UEFA Euro 2024.
Victory of two goals or more would see either Austria or France go top of Group D from the Netherlands.
Team News
Austria have no fresh injury concerns to report ahead of this match, with West Bromwich Albion’s Andreas Weimann amongst those called up for the tournament.
France have no fresh injury concerns to report but Kingsley Coman and Kylian Mbappe could start, despite having missed training last week due to illness.
When is Kick-Off?
Austria face France at Dusseldorf Arena, Dusseldorf, Germany, at 9pm CEST (8pm UK Time), live on ITV1 in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Austria are facing France at the European Championship Finals tournament for the first time.
- France won their two previous meetings against Austria in this competition albeit in Qualifiers by 9-4 aggregate score, with 5-2 home win in December 1959 then 4-2 away in March 1960.
- Christoph Baumgartner has scored in Austria’s last five matches (W4, D1).
- Randal Kolo Muani has scored in two of France’s last three matches.
Prediction
Currently on a seven-match unbeaten run and having lost once in their last 16 matches in all competitions, Austria certainly should have confidence coming into this game but their defence need to be perfect to keep players like Olivier Giroud and Kylian Mbappe quiet.
France though were held to a goalless draw by Canada in their last warm-up friendly so I do feel that they will be eager to mount a serious response, especially given the quality in their attack whilst N’Golo Kante will be a welcome return in midfield with his defence-to-attack threat.
Didier Deschamps’ Les Bleus though might need to be patient initially but once they hit their attacking gear, I do see them taking the win but Austria won’t make it easy.
Prediction: Austria 1-2 France
