Midfielder, Josh McEachran has signed a new one-year contract at Oxford United.
McEachran joined the Us from MK Dons last summer in a move which saw him join his hometown club, and he successfully helped them claim promotion from League One to the Championship via the play-offs.
Despite failing to score or create any assists, McEachran made 32 appearances with solid performances to earn a contract renewal.
Addressing his decision to stay at the club for another season, McEachran was “absolutely delighted” to stay with his local club.
“Being a local boy from Oxford, I know what this club means to everyone in the area, and it was amazing to see the city get behind the team in what was such a special season.
“Now, I can’t wait to take part in the Championship with Oxford and see what we can achieve.”
Oxford Utd’s Head Coach, Des Buckingham is “delighted” that McEachran has decided to accept a new contract, given his impact in their promotion push and play-offs last season.
“Josh played an important part in our team last season, particularly in the run-in as we pushed for the play-offs and then on to Wembley.
“His ability and experience were crucial and we will be looking for Josh to bring those qualities again for the 2024/25 campaign.”
Us’ Head of Recruitment, Ed Waldron described McEachran as “a key figure in helping build the culture we want at the Club.”
Waldron also is hopeful that the 31 year-old can use his second-tier experience to help the club adapt to the Championship.
“He’s spent the majority of his career at Championship level or above and we believe he can bring a lot to the team for our first year back in the Championship.”
Having graduated through Chelsea’s academy to make 22 senior appearances, McEachran enjoyed loan spells at Swansea, Middlesbrough, Watford, Wigan and Vitesse Arnhem, before he spent four seasons at Brentford where he scored one goal in 101 appearances.
An one-and-a-half season spell at Birmingham City saw him manage just 10 appearances due to injury issues, before he made the switch to MK Dons after he was released by the Blues.
