Sky Sports and ITV have agreed a free-to-air deal for Carabao Cup and Championship matches across next three seasons.
This deal marks a return of live action in League Cup and Championship to free-to-air (FTA) TV for the first time since 2011-12 season.
The contract however will start in January 2025 with ITV jointly covering one semi-final tie and final in the Carabao Cup next season, before they will cover at least one tie per round in opening four rounds across 2025-26 & 26-27 seasons.
ITV will show two Quarter-Final ties across both seasons plus one semi-final and the final, on top of an additional tie in Rounds Three and Four, meaning that at least nine Carabao Cup ties will be broadcast on ITV across both seasons.
Ten fixtures from the Championship will also be simulcast on ITV across both 25-26 & 26-27 seasons, alongside five games from the second-half of next season, with an option to extend their selection to matches in League One or League Two.
ITV Director of Sport, Niall Sloane described this new deal as a “fuller EFL package” to compliment their highlights deal.
Sky Sports’ Managing Director, Jonathan Licht added that the FTA deal has been devised “to help grow and broaden audiences for sports.”
EFL Chairman, Trevor Birch meanwhile is “delighted” that this move will make both competitions accessible to wider audiences.
“We want the EFL to be accessible to as many audiences as possible, and this extra offering, with no additional subscription required, only enhances our reputation. I’d like to thank both organisations for their ongoing support and genuine commitment to all EFL competitions.”
