2023-24 Premier League: Week 38 – Liverpool vs Wolves

Liverpool bid farewell to manager, Jurgen Klopp as the Reds host Wolves at Anfield.

Klopp’s Reds are already guaranteed third place whilst Wolves can finish as high as 10th with a win if Brighton, Bournemouth and Crystal Palace all lose elsewhere.

Andrew Robertson is set to return for Liverpool after he missed their 3-3 draw at Aston Villa due to a knock.

Diogo Jota (muscle) could return but Ben Doak (knee), Joel Matip (ACL) and Thiago Alcantara (muscle) remain absent.

Wolves could be without Pablo Sarabia due to a muscle injury.

Pedro Neto (hamstring) is a doubt but Leon Chiwone (ankle) and Craig Dawson (groin) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Liverpool host Wolves at Anfield on Sunday 19 May at 4pm BST, live on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Liverpool have lost one of their last 14 league meetings against Wolves (W13, L1).
  • Wolves have lost their last six league visits to Anfield (L6).
  • Liverpool have kept clean sheets in four of their last five league matches at home to Wolves.
  • Under Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool haven’t lost a final-day fixture (W6, D2), during which they managed four clean sheets.
  • Wolves have lost each of their last six final-day fixtures since a 1-0 home win over Preston in May 2017 in the Championship (L6).

Prediction

Although this is set to be an emotional day for everyone associated with Liverpool on and off the pitch, they still need to do the business here if want to give Klopp the perfect home farewell and respond to their late defensive collapse in their 3-3 draw at Villa.

Wolves meanwhile have enjoyed a solid season but if they hadn’t had their dip of just five points – including one win – in their last nine league matches, they could of been coming into this final day with a decent shot at a top-seven finish.

Nevertheless they have had a great season despite the difficult circumstances surrounding the opening week of their campaign, so this is a chance to relax and be part of a huge Merseyside occasion but they have to handle the oppositional intensity better than they did against Palace.

I however can’t see Liverpool losing this game such is their home form but Wolves hopefully won’t just roll over.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-1 Wolves

Result: Liverpool 2-0 Wolves
