West Ham’s final home match under David Moyes sees the Hammers host relegation battling Luton at the London Stadium.
Victory would see West Ham stay ninth and move to within two points of Europa Conference League qualification – providing that Chelsea and Manchester United both fail to win elsewhere this weekend.
Luton will stay 18th if they win or draw but if they draw or lose then relegation could be confirmed if Nottingham Forest win their game in the teatime kick-off.
Team News
Lucas Paqueta is set to be available for West Ham despite having suffered a knock in the Hammers’ 5-0 loss at Chelsea.
Kalvin Phillips (calf), Konstantinos Mavropanos (knock) and Nayef Aguerd (shoulder) remains ruled out.
Luton could welcome Chiedozie Ogbene back into contention following his recovery from a lengthy hamstring injury.
Amari’i Bell, Dan Potts (both hamstring), Mads Andersen (calf), Marvelous Nakamba, Jacob Brown (both knee), Issa Kabore (ankle) and Tom Lockyer (illness) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
West Ham host Luton at London Stadium on Saturday 11 May at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.
Stat Attack
- West Ham won their only previous Premier League meeting against Luton by a 3-1 result in September 2023.
- Luton are visiting West Ham in the Premier League for the first time but have won one of their last five top-flight trips to the Hammers, albeit at their former Upton Park ground (W1, D2, L2).
- West Ham have kept clean sheets in four of their last five home matches against Luton in all competitions.
- David Moyes’ Hammers have kept three disciplinary clean sheets at home this season in all competitions.
- Five of Carlton Morris’ 10 league goals for Luton this season were scored away from home.
Prediction
With this game marking West Ham’s last home match of the season – and under Moyes in East London too – ahead of their final-day trip to Manchester City, I do hope that the players are more motivated for this clash than they were for a shambolic loss at Chelsea with awful defending.
Frankly their attacking ability was about the only positive because they had moments of great play yet just lacked that end product unlike the Blues, which has all but mathematically ended their hopes of a top-seven finish unless they win their last two and results elsewhere go in their favour.
Luton meanwhile did well to scrape a scrappy draw against Everton but I really do feel that they needed to win that game if want to stay up, so they now really could do with turning up and delivering a clinical display with better defending otherwise survival will be out of their hands.
West Ham though should really be fired up for this match to give Moyes the home farewell that he deserves, but they will need patience if they want to beat Luton’s stern but leaky defence because the Hatters won’t make this easy by any stretch.
Prediction: West Ham 2-1 Luton
Result: West Ham 3-1 Luton
