2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 46 – Plymouth vs Hull

Plymouth Argyle host Hull at Home Park in a huge final-day showdown with implications at both ends of Championship table.

Victory would see Plymouth stay up but a draw or defeat would be enough as long as Birmingham don’t win elsewhere or Huddersfield win by a 15-goal swing if Argyle lose.

Hull meanwhile must win and hope that Norwich or West Brom lose in their matches by a large margin, otherwise Liam Rosenior’s Tigers won’t finish in the top six and qualify for the play-offs.

Plymouth have no fresh injury concerns following their 1-0 loss at Millwall, with Ryan Hardie looking to start after he was utilised as a substitute at The Den.

Saxon Earley (ankle) and Mickel Miller (knee) remain ruled out.

Hull have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 3-3 draw at home to Ipswich, with only Anass Zaroury (groin) ruled out.

When is Kick-Off?

Prediction

Having looked capable of avoiding the final-day drama just a few weeks ago, Plymouth will be glad to have home advantage here because they need to turn up and deliver one massive effort, whilst delivering one of their best defensive efforts yet if want to stay up.

Hull though won’t just roll over because despite not having a goal difference to match Norwich and West Brom, Rosenior’s Tigers have to win and hope that one of the latter clubs slip up – ideally West Brom – but they can’t afford to be as sloppy as they were against Ipswich.

In fact if they can show the same attacking spirit as they mustered last weekend but cut out the defensive silliness, I can see Hull getting the win even if it ends up being in vain whilst Plymouth will need luck to be on their side.

Prediction: Plymouth 1-2 Hull

Result: Plymouth 1-0 Hull
