2023-24 Sky Bet Championship: Week 46 – Leicester vs Blackburn

Leicester host relegation battling Blackburn Rovers at King Power Stadium on a blockbuster final-day of the Championship.

Leicester are already confirmed as champions and will finish top of the table, whereas Blackburn need at least a draw to avoid the prospect of relegation.

Should Rovers lose then they need at least one of Sheffield Wednesday, Plymouth and Birmingham to fail to win in order to avoid the drop to League One.

When is Kick-Off?

Leicester host Blackburn at King Power Stadium on Saturday 4 May at 12:30pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Leicester have lost one of their last five league meetings against Blackburn (W3, D1, L1).
  • Blackburn are winless in their last nine league trips to Leicester (D4, L5).
  • Leicester have won two of their last four home clashes against Blackburn by a 2-1 result (W4).
  • Jamie Vardy has scored four goals in Leicester’s last three matches (W3).
  • Outside of the top four teams, no player has a higher expected goals average this season than Blackburn’s Sammie Szmodics who has a 20.9xG.

Prediction

With nothing to play for, Leicester can afford treat this game like a celebration party friendly but I do hope that they at least bring their best game – because this is a chance to stake their claim to be part of Enzo Maresca’s squad in the top-flight next season.

There is also the allure of achieving 100 points if they win here which will motivate them even more despite having the title and promotion already wrapped up.

Blackburn meanwhile did well to grind out a gutsy goalless draw against Coventry but with relegation still a possibility if luck goes against them, they need to turn up and deliver a result which is possible depending on the hosts’ mental attitude towards this game.

I however do feel that Blackburn will stay up regardless of the result but against these in-form Foxes, a draw might well be a fair outcome if the visitors play with the same smash-and-grab spirit which they successfully showed recently at Leeds.

Prediction: Leicester 1-1 Blackburn

Result: Leicester 0-2 Blackburn
