2023-24 Premier League: Week 34 – Sheffield United vs Burnley

Sheffield United meet Burnley at Bramall Lane in a must-win clash in the fight for survival.

Victory would move Chris Wilder’s rock-bottom Blades to within one point of second-last Burnley, whilst Vincent Kompany’s Clarets will stay 19th regardless of the result but a win would put them three points from safety.

Jayden Bogle and Jack Robinson are both unlikely to feature for Sheffield Utd as they recover from ankle injuries.

Chris Basham, Max Lowe (both ankle), Rhian Brewster, Rhys Norrington-Davies (both hamstring), George Baldock, Tom Davies (both calf), John Egan (foot) and Daniel Jebbison (illness) remain absent.

Burnley will welcome defender, Dara O’Shea back into contention after he was suspended for their 1-1 draw at home to Brighton.

Hjalmar Ekdal (fatigue) is expected to be in contention for selection.

Jordan Beyer (thigh), Ameen Al-Dakhil (unspecified), Nathan Redmond (hamstring), Aaron Ramsey and Luca Koleosho (both knee) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Prediction

Currently destined for relegation which will surely be confirmed before the month is out, Sheffield Utd simply need to show that final touch which was missing in their loss at Brentford where they looked solid defensively aside from small costly errors.

Burnley meanwhile had a huge chance to move to within four points of safety but they were unlucky to not beat Brighton for all of their defensive resilience and clinical play, purely because of some sloppy goalkeeping by Arijanet Muric which was deservedly punished in that draw.

Both teams though know that this is a definite must-win but given Burnley’s improved fight lately, I fancy the Clarets to edge this and boost their unlikely push for survival but they will certainly have to fight for the win.

Prediction: Sheffield United 1-2 Burnley

Result: Sheffield United 1-4 Burnley
