2020-21 Premier League: Week 38 – Sheffield United vs Burnley

Sheffield United look to bow out on a high as they welcome Burnley to Bramall Lane on the final day of 2020-21 Premier League season.

Sheffield Utd will finish this season rock bottom of the table no matter what result they achieve here, whereas Burnley could climb as high as 15th with a win if results elsewhere go in their favour.

George Baldock is a doubt for Sheffield Utd after missing Wednesday’s defeat at Newcastle with a hamstring injury.

Sander Berge (fitness) is a doubt but Oli McBurnie, Oliver Burke (both foot), Billy Sharp (muscle), Ethan Ampadu (groin/pelvis) and Jack O’Connell (knee) are ruled out.

Burnley could again be without Nick Pope as he continues to struggle with a knee injury.

Phil Bardsley (hernia), Dale Stephens (foot), Kevin Long (calf) and Robbie Brady (Achilles) remain absent.

Stat Attack

  • Sheffield Utd have avoided defeat in two of three previous Premier League meetings against Burnley (W1, D1, L1).
  • Burnley have won just one of their last six trips to Bramall Lane (W1, D2, L3).
  • Each of last three league goals in this fixture have been scored by defenders: Burnley – James Tarkowski, Ben Mee & Sheffield Utd – John Egan.
  • Sheffield Utd have lost all four home league games against North-West based teams this season, failing to score in three of those four matches (L4).
  • Six of Burnley’s last 11 away goals have been scored by Chris Wood (W3, L2).

Prediction

Sheffield Utd should be pleased with their midweek performance because they defended well throughout except for a momentary costly lapse in focus, whilst threatening well on the attack yet just lacked the final touch against a robust Newcastle team.

Burnley meanwhile will be disappointed with how they conceded three goals to Liverpool on Wednesday evening, especially because they didn’t play too badly on the attack yet were defensively caught out and lacked the finishing touch to their chances.

I also feel that as a dead rubber match, this game is likely to have a proper end of school year style feeling so am not expecting too much here although the home fans should give the Blades a key boost.

Prediction: Sheffield United 1-0 Burnley
