Roundup of the Fifth Round action in 2023-24 Women’s FA Cup as 16 teams battled for a place in the Quarter-Finals.
Non League’s Wolves and Nottingham Forest looked to spring surprises and extend their cup runs against Women’s Super League’s (WSL) Brighton and Everton respectively, whilst Arsenal met Manchester City in a blockbuster showdown.
Last season’s finalists, Chelsea and Manchester United meanwhile fought to avoid cupsets against Championship opposition, amongst five ties which pitted WSL teams against second-tier opposition.

WSL vs WSL

Laia Aleixandri netted a 74th minute winner as Manchester City won 1-0 at Arsenal in the only all-WSL tie of the round, despite City’s Khiara Keating luckily having an equalising own-goal deemed not over the line in injury-time to the fury of home fans.

Maya Ramirez flicked in an 80th minute winner on her Women’s FA Cup debut for Chelsea as the reigning champions scraped past Crystal Palace at Kingsmeadow.
Last season’s runners-up, Manchester United avoided a cupset at Southampton through Rachel Williams’ brace, after Ella Toone’s early opening goal was cancelled out by Lexi Lloyd-Smith’s 65th minute equaliser.
Sophie Romain Haug and Melissa Lawley found the net as Liverpool cruised to a 2-0 away win at London City Lionesses, which secured the Reds a first Quarter-Final appearance since 2019.
Kit Graham’s low 76th minute strike saw Tottenham edge past Charlton in a London derby, which secured only a third Quarter-Final appearance in this competition for Spurs.
Shannon O’Brien’s brace saw Leicester avoid a cupset at home to Midlands rivals, Birmingham City with a 6-2 victory, as Janice Cayman, Saori Takarada, Deanne Rose and Aileen Whelan also netted for the Foxes.
Non League vs WSL
Emma Kullberg’s late hat-trick saw Brighton avoid a cupset at Wolves with a 4-1 win, after Katie Robinson’s first-half opening goal had been cancelled out by Bethan Merrick’s 67th minute penalty.
Katherine Kuhl, Martina Piemonte, Justine Vanhaevermat, Emma Bissell, Toni Duggan and Hanna Bennison were all on the scoresheet as Everton thrashed Nottingham Forest in a 7-1 away win, during which Emily Batty scored an own-goal and Charlotte Greengrass scored for Forest.
