Irish racing driver, Alex Dunne has joined MP Motorsport for the 2024 F3 season.
Dunne finished second in GB3 last season with five wins and two further podium finishes in a campaign which saw him take one pole position, plus achieved double wins in Spa Francorchamps, Belgium, and Zandvoort, Netherlands.
The 18 year-old will now step up to F3 with MP Motorsport after he claimed his first taste of F3 machinery in the 2023 Macau Grand Prix for Hitech, which saw him qualify sixth and climbed to second in the Qualifying Race before he suffered an opening lap crash in the main race.
“I’m thrilled to start my first full season of FIA F3 with MP Motorsport”, commented Dunne on his move into the series who is delighted to join an experienced race-winning team at MP Motorsport.
“They are proven winners in every category that they compete in, and I’m sure that they will use their experience to help me build on my initial experiences with the F3 car in the post-season FIA F3 test at Imola and then at Macau.
“I will be up against the best drivers at this level of single-seater racing, but that’s what I’m here for. I relish the challenge ahead and can’t wait to get started!”
MP Motorsport Team Principal, Sander Dorsman is “truly excited” to sign Dunne after his “outstanding” GB3 campaign and raw pace shown in the post-season F3 test at Imola plus Macau GP.
Dorsman also praised Dunne for his Macau performance as he explained: “His Macau performance in particular was hard to overlook, so we were happy to pounce and snap him up for our final FIA F3 seat.”
Dunne will partner Red Bull juniors, Tim Tramnitz and Kacper Sztuka which has excited Dorsman.
“Along with Tim and Kacper, we will have three very quick young drivers all eager to prove their point. I’m confident that they will all shine in their debut seasons.”
Dunne previously won 2022 British F4 title with 11 wins and finished as vice-champion in Italian F4 that season.
