ART Grand Prix have retained Victor Martins for the 2024 F2 season.

Martins enjoyed a strong debut rookie season in F2 as he finished as the highest-placed rookie in fifth position, in which he took one win which came in the British Feature Race from one of his three pole positions across the campaign.

The 22-year old Frenchman also took eight further podium finishes and six fastest laps in a solid year which saw him achieve huge progress, having scored just 15 points from the opening eight races across the first four rounds of the season.

Martins will also remain part of Alpine’s Academy for a fourth consecutive season, having previously been a member between 2018-19, before he was dropped at the start of 2020 which saw him go on to win the Formula Renault Eurocup that season to reclaim his membership.

Speaking about his decision to stay with ART GP who took him to the 2022 F3 title and retained him for his move up to F2, Martins commented: “With ART Grand Prix, we have a shared past of passion that has been crowned by several titles.

“I hope that we will add one in 2024 which will be a decisive season for my project. But I won’t have my eyes on the standings: I want to correct the mistakes of last year, manage the championship over the long term and always get the best possible result, whether the circumstances are favourable or complicated.

“And there is no shortage of serious competitors. There’s an element of the unknown with a new car, but I trust ART Grand Prix to make the most of it. The team surrounds me perfectly, just like Alpine, I have all the cards in hand to achieve my goals.”

ART GP Team Principal, Sebastien Philippe added that the team has a “rich and successful” partnership with Martins, whilst he praised the Frenchman for his strong rookie season in F2 which will be the building blocks for a title challenge this season.

“His first year in Formula 2 was very good and formative. It allowed him to constantly fight for pole position and victory. In 2024, our common goal will logically be to erase the small mistakes of last season and conquer the title.”

Martins will partner rookie, Zak O’Sullivan next season as the Williams junior driver replaces Martins’ French compatriot, Theo Pourchaire, who has left the series for Super Formula after he was crowned champion in Abu Dhabi.
