Brentford manager, Thomas Frank has blamed “a couple of big mistakes” for their 4-1 Premier League loss to Wolves.

Hwang Hee-Chan’s brace in-between goals from Mario Lemina and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde saw Wolves prevail at Gtech Community Stadium, despite Yoane Wissa having netted for the Bees in the 16th minute to briefly put the hosts 2-1 down.

Frank however felt that the 4-1 defeat was harsh as he pointed to costly errors within his team’s peformance, as he explained: “We lost a game that was never a 4-1 defeat. Of course we didn’t help ourselves, but that happens.

“We made a couple of big mistakes and two other avoidable goals that we normally don’t give away.

“We need to give credit to Wolves on two of the goals – but they’re still avoidable goals, from my perspective.”

Frank also personally believed that his team had “performed quite well” despite missing several key regulars due to injuries and suspension, having “…  created quite a few big chances and a lot of dangerous situations that really didn’t tip our way.”

Mathias Jensen returned from an adductor injury which pleased Frank who described the Denmark international as “a big and important player for us”, whilst also acknowleding Keane Lewis-Potter and Yoane Wissa for being a “positive light” in a tough display.

“We have to stick together”

Midfielder, Vitaly Janelt praised Frank for his motivational speech during the half-time break but admitted that the team were wasteful but urged the team to remain united moving forward.

“These things are part of a football career – we didn’t take our chances – and we have to stick together.

“In the second half we had two or three good opportunities to score. If we’d scored the second goal, things could have turned around, especially with our fans.”

Brentford have now won just one of their last seven games but Janelt believes that unity will be key to reversing their fortunes, heading into a trip to Crystal Palace where all five previous Premier League clashes have ended in a draw.

“It’s easy to complain because we’re not getting the results, but it’s up to us to stick together as a team, with the fans behind us.

“Now we play against Crystal Palace in three days and it’s a big opportunity for us to turn things around.”
