Tommy Smith will stay with Van Amersfoort Racing for a second season in F3 in 2024.

Smith’s continuation in F3 for next season will see the 21 year-old Australian look to chase his maiden points finish in the category, having finished in 27th position in this season’s standings albeit as the highest placed regular driver not to score a point.

Smith’s best result this season was a 12th placed finish in the Feature Race at his home round in Melbourne, Australia, in a progressive but tough rookie campaign for the Australian.

Van Amrsfoort Racing (VAR) opted to retain Smith for the post-season tests and Macau Grand Prix, where he finished 14th overall in the main race.

“Continuing with Van Amersfoort Racing for another year is an incredible opportunity,” commented Smith on his opportunity to stay in F3 and is looking to use his experiences of this season as a platform to build upon in 2024.

“The team and I have had a great partnership so far, and I cannot wait to see what 2024 brings us. I’m eagerly waiting for the challenges ahead, and ready to give it my all for a great second season in FIA Formula 3.”

VAR CEO, Rob Niessink is delighted to retain Smith despite his tough rookie season, as he explained: “Tommy is a great character to work with and we’re thrilled to extend our partnership for another season.

“With his rookie season behind him, 2024 will be the year where he can put his experience in the championship to use. We’re excited to see how he will perform next year.”

Smith will be partnered by Mexico’s Noel Leon – who won 2023 Eurformula title – plus a yet unannounced driver who will be confirmed in due course.
