Sky Sports, TNT Sport and BBC have retained broadcasting rights for the Premier League until end of 2028-29 season.
The new contract covers a four-year deal from August 2025 until end of 2028-29 season, and will see the introduction of fixtures moved from the Saturday 3pm slot aside from selected broadcast picks being televised.
Sky will retain their usual slots across Packags B, C, D and E which contain their current broadcast slots:
- Friday/Mondays (8pm)
- Saturday (5:30pm)
- Sunday (2pm/4:30pm)
The broadcaster will consequently broadcast a minimum of 215 matches in total with Sky Group CEO, Dana Strong describing the deal as “… a fantastic result for Sky customers, who will see a significant increase in the number of matches from the most iconic league in the world.”
Sky Sports will also televise fixtures moved away from Saturday 3pm slot due to European action on preceding Thursdays plus any fixtures rearranged for various reasons – i.e. weather or team in domestic cup action.
Sky have also won the rights to air the opening two midweek rounds of the season plus all ten fixtures on the final day of each season.
TNT Sport meanwhile will retain it’s current 12:30pm slot on Saturdays – albeit with option to flex into 8pm slot in event of team playing away in Europe on preceding Wednesday- which is Package A compromising of 18 second picks plus 14 fourth picks and 20 matches.
TNT will also broadcast the final two midweek matchweek rounds across each season.
BBC will hold the Free-To-Air (FTA) highlights rights encompassing all 380 matches per season again with additional digital platform rights.
BBC Sport Director, Barbara Slater commented upon confirmation of BBC’s contract renewal, as she explained: “Match Of The Day remains enduringly popular with audiences and this new agreement with the Premier League is brilliant news for football fans all over the UK.
“For almost 60 years it has been the UK’s most discussed football programme, delivering a complete digest of the weekend’s action and this enhanced deal with more digital content means we can tell the story of the Premier League every day across BBC Sport platforms.”
The FTA deal also includes Match of the Day 2 and Football Focus, despite rumours that the latter programme was set for the chop in recent months.
Premier League officials have confirmed that the new contracts with all three broadcasters totals £6.7billion in revenue across the four-year contract.
Premier League Chief Executive, Richard Masters is “delighted” that Sky, TNT and BBC have agreed new contracts, with BBC’s Match of the Day set to celebrate its 60th anniversary next August.
Addressing Match of the Day’s upcoming anniversary, Masters said: “Match of the Day has been an institution for generations of football fans in this country and remains incredibly popular with fans of all ages.”
Masters also iterated that the conclusion of the sale process “… underlines the strength of the Premier League and is testament to our clubs, players and managers who continue to deliver the world’s most competitive football in full stadiums, and to supporters, who create an unrivalled atmosphere every week.”
